Spring Break - Week One

Long school breaks are always hardest on the moms. We've got to figure out what to do in order to keep the little ones occupied and out of trouble. The last couple of years have been difficult. Jeff works in education so he gets a spring break too. Unfortunately it's a different school district so they don't always coordinate. This year they overlap over just one day -- Good Friday. Annalise has two weeks off before Easter and Jeff has the week after. Who plans these things?!?
We were fortunate that the first week was rather nice around here. The weather of our part of northern California is rather weird, or it least it seems to me. Wintertime is when everything is lush and green, and it's in the summertime when the hills are brown -- Jeff tells me they're golden, but they just look dead to me. Anyway, I tried to get the girls out of the house. We played at the park with friends and we went rode our bikes around the neighborhood.

During the many playdates/sleepovers, I was able to finish a project that has been in my to-do pile for several months. Robyn's dress was made from an XXL Men's shirt I bought at a thrift store. She's a big girl so I barely had enough material to make it. But I'm pleased and she likes it as well. According to her, it's her Hawaii dress. I found the pattern on this website, Made.

Another fun activity was getting together with old friends to go minature golfing. We don't get to see them as much as we no longer live in the same city. But spring break is a perfect time to hang out with friends. That day was weird weather. It couldn't decide if it wanted to be sunny or rainy.

I've Got Pictures

Annalise convinced Robyn to try sleeping in the closet again. She made it so nice and comfy that Robyn ended up sleeping there all night. Instead of closing the closet door they made a door out of a Playhut tent.

The next night they ended up in Annalise's closet. Her closet is long so there was one girl on each end. Robyn was still comfortable but Annalise not so much. She's just too tall to fit in the space comfortably. I didn't get pictures of that because when I got the camera out the next morning Annalise refused to let me take a pictures. I think the teenage moodiness has already started.

Thought I'd Share

Yesterday Robyn discovered her closet. Well, she's always known of her closet because it's where she dumps out all her shoes on the floor. What she's discovered it how much fun it is to play in. When I was a little kid I would set up a reading space in my closet. I would bring in a lamp (it's amazing nothing caught on fire) and would spend several hours reading in my secret space. So I think it's really cute to see her playing in the closet. Last night she decided she wanted to sleep in there since Annalise was spending the night at a friend's house. Okaaaaay -- we let her figuring sometime during the night she'd end up in her bed and it didn't take long.

At around 9:30 we heard a little voice coming from her room.

"Mom, can I sleep in my bed now?"

Afterwards Jeff & I just laughed and laughed. Of course she can sleep in her bed. What made us laugh is the way she said it -- like we made her sleep in the closet. Kids! LOL

Catch Up

This time of year it is always pretty quiet around here. There's no sports for the girls, no dance recitals, and just overall bad weather so we tend to stay inside and not do a whole lot.
Even with it being quiet, life has been stressful. But, we are pleased to announce that Jeff will have a job this next school year!
For all those who haven't heard, California is falling apart -- at least financially. As a result the powers in charge have decided that education needs to be stripped down. So, last month we have been super stressed with wondering what's going to happen next year. Many places are closing schools, raising class sizes, getting rid of extracurricular activities -- well, you get the picture. Now I'm not happy with all that's going on, but I am thankful that my husband still has a job. I'll just have to fight one battle at a time. :)
Just thought I'd add a couple recent pictures. Here's a picture of my little girl at her preschool teddy bear parade. If you look closely at the box she's dragging behind her there is a teddy bear in there.

Here's another picture for good measure -- just being goofy! For some reason my girls love playing with the laundry baskets or boxes, it doesn't really matter it's all good.
(**Update -- it looks like Jeff will be at the same school. Yeah!)

Finished

Finished my latest knitting project:

Robyn picked out the pattern. The yarn - I bought off of Craig's List. I liked working with this yarn and I love the color. She really likes it but she can be hard on clothes. I'm not sure if I'm ready for her to wear because maybe I'll enter it in the county fair this summer. Anyway, she'll get to wear it eventually....
Now that I'm finished I should get started on a sweater for Annalise. But....I'm tired so it will happen someday in the future. :)

Princess

I thought this was one of the neatest birthday gifts to Robyn. I love when people give gifts made from their very own hands. Our neighbor painted it especially for Robyn. Princess theme -- she knows her so well. You can see the rest of her work at My Mommy Paints.
